New update! (released a few days ago actually)
Update Contents
- Major changes to the city level: now it has a prettier background and music.
- Added ambient sound effects to the first level.
- Changed the character design of the protagonist.
- Added an option menu and some accessibility settings to the maze level.
- Minor changes to the kaleidoscope level.
Reflecting on future development
I really liked working on this game and I'm pretty happy with the results of the jam (first time I placed 1st in a category). This update adds the few things that I felt were needed, and I would say that the current version is how the game was initially designed to be.
However I feel like the game isn't complete yet. I think Mirar fits in the "Yume Nikki-style" genre, but the thing that these kind of games often do is to use exploration to tell a story, and my game doesn't do that. What I think it's still missing is some story, theming or some endings.
I don't think I'll develop the game further until I come up with a compelling story to tell, so don't expect any Mirar update soon.
